Electric Bicycles vs. Electric Scooters / Which is right for you?
Electric scooters are smaller, offer better portability, are easier to store, and in most cases, are easier to maneuver and maintain. Electric bikes, on the other hand, are better suited for individuals that will be riding on rougher terrain like dirt or gravel trails and bumpy roads. Electric bikes, in most cases, are better for long distance riding, as they can still be manually ridden even if the battery is depleted. In terms of costs, electric bikes will always be more expensive to buy and maintain.
How easy are electric scooters to ride?
Electric scooters are fairly easy to ride for most individuals. Even an absolute beginner can get the hang of it after a few minutes of practice. This is in part due to the natural riding position combined with the low center of gravity and small wheels and tires. Before riding any e-scooter for the first time, make sure you have plenty of space and ensure that there are no obstacles in the way. Always remember to wear a helmet for your safety. – Click here to learn more –
Are electric scooters and electric bicycles reliable?
Yes. Both electric scooters and electric bikes are reliable means of transportation and will last for years. Electric bikes have more moving parts and will need to be inspected and serviced periodically for normal wear and tear. Electric scooters will offer more reliability in terms of maintenance, but make sure to check your brakes, tires, and lights before every ride. Keep in mind that storing electric scooters and electric bikes in the sun or hot or cold conditions will accelerate aging and reduce the battery life.
Are electric scooters and electric bikes good for commuting?
Being zero-emission vehicles, electric scooters and electric bicycles are both environmentally safe options for commuting locally. If you factor in the lack of need for fuel, not dealing with traffic jams, and the low maintenance costs, electric scooters and bikes are both very attractive commuting solutions, especially for crowded cities. Keep in mind that while electric bikes take longer to charge due to their larger batteries, they will generally have longer ranges and will, therefore, work best for longer commutes.
How old do kids need to be to ride an electric scooter or electric bicycle?
This is a tricky one. The age requirements for electric scooter and electric bikes in the US vary by individual state laws. Most states have no age restriction, but some do. Although rare, some states even require the scooter to be registered. Be sure to check your individual state laws before allowing kids to ride.
Can you use an electric scooter manually, like a push scooter?
Although electric scooters can sometimes be pushed manually, it is not recommended. Trying to manually push an electric scooter is difficult and impractical. Electric scooters are usually higher off the ground and are equipped with hub motors, which tend to cause resistance when not on.
Can you use an electric bicycle manually without pedal assist?
Unlike electric scooters, electric bicycles can easily be ridden with no power and function as normal bicycles when the power is turned off.
Where should I store and charge my electric scooters or bicycle?
It is best to store and charge electric scooters and electric bicycles in a cool, dry place away from moisture and extreme temperature fluctuations. The temperature in the stored environment should not get above 85 degrees or below freezing. Recharging your batteries from time to time while in storage will help keep your battery healthy during longer storage periods.
Are electric scooters and electric bicycles safe for the environment?
Electric scooters and electric bicycles are both zero-emission vehicles. This means that they emit nothing into the environment while in use – no exhaust, noise, or any other pollution. If used as a means of transportation in instances where a car would normally be used, electric scooters and electric bicycles are a great alternative.
